The Citizens Association of Georgetown Gala brought out a slew of Washington's major players. Mayor Adrian Fenty looked distinguished in his navy blue suit and coordinating blue striped tie. The Capitals players, Alexander Semin and Alex Ovechkin, traded in their hockey uniforms for the night and sported a GQ look.

DOUBLE TAKE

Who knew you could live so fashionably large on a budget?! These girls were real showstoppers at L2 Lounge in their red and black ensembles. Malinda Walker’s outfit, from head to toe, was less than $50. Jamie Bowersox’s dress was found at Loehmann’s for under $100. This is what you call chic on the cheap!

TREND SETTER

Host of the Fashion Fights Poverty “Dress Responsibly” Lookbook launch party held on September 15 at L2 Lounge, Kate Michael, looked very stylish in her fashion-forward MLU dress. We love the glitz on the top part of the dress. A little sparkle goes a long way!

MICHELLE OBAMA LOOK OUT!

Congresswoman Donna Edwards, representing the 4th Congressional District of Maryland, took a cue from Michelle Obama in her sleeveless, patterned, tie top at the Mr. Jones Goes to Washington Birthday Party for Van Jones. She was looking very chic and stylish from head to toe. Definitely a refreshing change from the traditional Washington business attire!

GOSSIP GIRL ALERT

Spotted…Fashion Fights Poverty’s Special Assistant to the Press, Anna Gullickson, pulled off a ladylike sophistication in her BCBG dress. Her classic pearls and “Blair style” hair would make any New York Upper East Sider proud. All she needs to complete the outfit is Chuck by her side.

RETURN TO GLAMOUR

Andrea Rogers, aka Miss A, was looking exceptionally elegant in her Black Halo dress from Terra at the Capital City Ball Kick off Party to benefit Innocents at Risk at The Georgetown Club. To add to her glamour, her chunky retro Janis Savitt crystal necklace and engraved Innocents at Risk, layered bangles completed the look. Her “wow” factor is undeniable!

JUMPING SHIP

The recently converted Democrat from Pennsylvania, Senator Arlen Specter, was seen at Johnny's Half Shell mingling with his new contemporaries. He was sporting a classic brown suit, white shirt and red tie. Even though he has changed parties, his conservative look still remains the same.

MEN IN PLAID

The preppsters were out in style last Thursday night! Brandt Squires, of Living Social, was attending a fundraiser at George, the newest social club in Georgetown. He was there supporting Luke's Wings, a charity that provides travel planning services for the families of wounded service members, http://www.lukeswings.org/. Brandt was wearing plaid pants from Relish, a light-blue Abercrombie button down and a Vineyard Vines belt. Next door at Cafe Milano, Jamie Stallman, a radiologist, accompanied by Stephane Carnot, was dressed in plaid pants, a navy polo and a Vineyard Vines belt. Plaid pants are a bold statement but luckily they both pulled them off. Congrats!

IMPRESS FOR LESS

Who says looking good has to cost a lot? Sarah Wingfield, the co-founder of Luke's Wings, was looking fabulous wearing a dress she purchased at Downtown Cowgirl in Rehoboth Beach for $85. Sarah Romero, who also knows how to find a great deal, was looking trendy in her Glam top for $64 and Madden Girl peep-toe heels for $59, all from South Moon Under. These girls know how to shop!

PARTY AT THE DODGE MANSION

Senator George Allen, Bill Dean and Attorney General and the Republican candidate for the Governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell were looking fabulous in the Great Room at the Dodge Mansion. Bill Dean really stood out in his Zegna windowpane jacket and shirt. Looking good guys!

THE WORST OF SUMMER 2009
We are all into covering up but this lady has taken it to the extreme. On a hot summer day, she is wearing a long-sleeve, oversized, quilted, burgundy top over a dowdy black skirt. The length of the skirt and the long top is not figure flattering. This is a definite DON'T!

Pantyhose in the summertime is never a good idea. In particular, white pantyhose with open toed shoes is an especially bad idea. Rule #1- Pantyhose should NOT be worn with open toed shoes. Rule #2- Black pantyhose with a white polka dotted skirt and tan pumps is a definite no no. Someone call the fashion police! There are two arrests that need to be made!

Floral patterns were all the rage this summer however, this gigantic sunflower patterned dress is definitely NOT what the fashion designers had in mind. Unfortunately, the pattern on the dress is not its only problem. This silhouette wouldn't flatter anyone's figure. To top it off, she is wearing pantyhose with open toed shoes. Do we need to say more?

Men, this is a major fashion blunder. If you're not going on a hike, hiking boots never go with noticeable socks and shorts. If you have outgrown your shirt, there are several charitable organizations that will take it off of your hands. Tucking it in does not disguise the fact that it is still too small.

TENNIS ANYONE?

Even though he is not a political figure, the fashionable Tommy Haas was recently in town for the Legg Mason Tennis Tournament. Although Tommy lost in the quarter finals, he is still a winner in our court. Jennifer Gogarty was kind enough to send us this picture. NEW YORK, NEW YORK

New York men are known for their fashion and these New Yorkers did not disappoint. Senator Charlie Rangel, representing the 15th Congressional District of New York, had on a classic navy blue suit, a Winchester blue and white pinstripe shirt, a coordinating blue and white tie and matching pocket square. Congressman Maurice Hinchey, representing the 22nd Congressional District of New York, was wearing a light-grey Hart Schaffner Marx suit (the same designer as the President likes to wear), a light blue shirt and a paisley tie.

SUMMER'S NOT OVER YET

We did a double-take when we saw not just one, but two men wearing blue and white seersucker suits at our last event. Morris J. Amitay, founder and treasurer of the Washington Political Action Committee, was rocking a Joseph A. Bank seersucker suit, light blue shirt and navy tie. James B. Smith Jr., of the American Continental Group, was wearing a Haspel seersucker suit, a light blue tie and white Bucks. Wow, I wonder if Joseph Haspel, who designed the light weight suit in a striped, rumpled cotton in the early 1900s, would believe that his seersucker creation is still in style today!

A WOMAN OF POWER

Finally!! A female senator made an appearance at one of the many events we have attended. In a forever classic style, Senator Kay Hagan was looking fabulous in her Jackie O inspired navy blue suit and pearls. Now that's dressing the part!

VACATION AT THE VINEYARD

Senator Joe Lieberman was spotted sporting a patriotic Vineyard Vines stars and flags tie. Their bright and whimsical patterned ties have become a visible statement in the Washington political class. It's nice to know that there are some things that are bipartisan.

DO...
Wear a subtle striped button-down shirt paired with a bold striped tie. When in doubt, the classic look always wins.

DON'T...
Please don't wear a checked patterned button-down shirt with a loud decorative tie. The tie, now that's what we need to talk about! What's with the tie on tie look? This is one style from the 90s that should NOT be brought back.

FATHER & SON DUO

It was a wonderful surprise running into Senator John McCain and his son, John McCain IV, known as Jack, outside of Johnny's Half Shell. Senator McCain looked dapper in his light blue shirt and orange tie. Jack sported a more casual look in an anti-war tee and jeans. With his good looks, we bet he looks good in just about everything. And to top it all off, they both couldn't have been nicer.

TASTE OF THE SOUTH

The men of the South have always been noted for their distinguishable style and dress. Congressman Rodney Alexander, of Louisiana, and Congressman John Barrow, of Georgia, did not disappoint. Love those good ol' boys!

Jennifer Fisher, of the American Dental Association, was spotted at the new rooftop bar at the W hotel. We loved her black and white Muse dress, complimented by her burgundy Christian Loubouin heels and ever so classic classic Louis Vuitton handbag. Now, that's sophistication!

HEAT WAVE
As the temperature rises, the dress code on the Hill becomes more relaxed. Laura Donahoe, of Van Scoyoc Associates, was seen leaving the Russell Senate Office Building wearing a trendy printed Craig Taylor Inc. shirt dress. Kathy Marshall, interning with the Department of Justice, was found at 1600 Penn wearing hip white pants and a flirty ruffled top, creating a light and breezy feel.

A BLACK AND WHITE STORY
Once upon a time, on a big hill where very important decisions are made, there was a tale of two girls. One girl was a very good dresser and one girl was very bad. The good dresser, Maggie Juliand, a Legislative Assistant for Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter, was wearing a feminine black and white sun dress with an adorable matching black cardigan and neutral sandals. She was not only good for her sense of style, but for her ability for find a bargain. The dress was found at Marshall's for under $50.

The bad dresser on the other hand, who will remain nameless, had no style. Where to begin? Perhaps we will start from top to bottom- a plain black mock-turtleneck, tucked into a dull and drab tight charcoal skirt, finished off with a pair of tall black winter boots. We thought is was July, not the end of February???

COLOR COMES TO THE HILL
The best accessory for men this summer is the tie. Vibrant colors add a pop to those dark suits. David Krone, Senator Reid's Chief of Staff, Jake Perry, also from Senator Reid's office, Michael Meadow, The Architect of the Capitol, and Ted Okon, of Community Oncology Alliance...each tie is better than the next.

FASHION OF POLITICS
When we first thought of the idea for this blog, a common response was, "there is no fashion in politics." However, we beg to differ. Just take a look at Michelle Obama who has proven them all wrong. Even before Barack Obama was elected president, every newspaper and magazine was consumed with what Michelle was wearing. Since Barack Obama was elected president, Michelle Obama has not put on a pair of socks without someone covering what brand they are. Now, it's time for the rest of the politicians to follow her lead. Gentlemen, tuck in your shirts and straighten your ties. Ladies, it's time to update your St. John's or try something a little more chic.

So, follow our blog. We will not only be providing commentary on what our politicians are wearing, we will be offering expert advice. While we know a new suit will not alter the current economic state of our country, it can reflect the current changes in Washington that mark a new era in politics. It is a proven fact that the better one looks, the more confidence he/she bestows. If there is one thing our country needs right now, it is confidence in our leadership. So, we will take this opportunity to encourage our politicians to dress the part and throw some color on to bring life to these dark times. We know good fashion can be affordable.

So, to all you politicians or politician "hopefuls," fashion help is only a phone call or email away. We are here to put you on the right fashion path to lead- whichever direction your political future may take you- always looking your best.

With the start of Summer, in comes the interns with the sleekest, chicest summer accessories. Sara Gould and Stephanie Rice, both interning with the Treasury Department, are sporting cool shades, the trendy long gold chain necklace, the always-in scarf and a colorful orange handbag.

SPOTTED!!! DASHIING POLITIANS AROUND THE MALL.
Which one of these is not like the other? The politician uniform is a dark suit and a conservative tie. While we are always looking for something new and different, all of these politicians have carried off a first-rate uniform.
Starting from left to right, Senator Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader, Congressman Steny Hoyer, House Majority Leader, and Congressman Chris Van Hollen.

The T.V.- appointed District Attorney of New York, Jack McCoy, also known as Sam Waterson, looked ever so dapper at the International Refugee 30th Anniversary Dinner. We could only hope that all District Attorneys could dress as sharp.

THE HILL AFTER DARK…CHEERS!

Fashion finds its way to the Hill’s local watering holes. Well-suited, Andy Jazwick, was seen at The Monocle in a charcoal pinstripe suit with a single pop of color, his teal polka dot tie. It’s classic, with a twist. Beth Bresee glammed it up at Tortilla Coast in a modern double-breasted jacket.
